AI is rapidly changing how people find and interact with information. But for many organizations, especially those with large, complex WordPress sites, generic AI tools don’t quite cut it. They’re too broad, too risky, or simply disconnected from the content that actually matters.
That’s why we built a new block-based AI chat tool for WordPress. Designed specifically to help organizations turn their existing content into a trustworthy, human-friendly knowledge experience.
We think of it as an AI Knowledge Hub: a smarter, safer way for users to ask questions and get clear answers grounded in your organization’s own content.
We’re currently piloting the tool on the Center for News, Technology & Innovation’s website, using their real-world content to refine performance, accuracy, and user experience. Checkout the work we did for the Center of News, Technology & Innovation.
Built for WordPress, Powered by Choice
At its core, our tool integrates directly into WordPress using a block-based (Gutenberg) interface. Clients can:
- Select their preferred AI service (OpenAI and Google Gemini are supported today with more providers coming soon.)
- Choose which AI model to use
- Control how much additional prompt context the AI receives (tone, organizational context, terminology, response length, etc.)
From there, the tool indexes all site content—including posts, pages, and custom post types—so the AI learns directly from what you’ve already published.
The result? Answers that are relevant, accurate, and aligned with your organization’s voice and mission.
Answers Grounded in Your Content
Unlike generic chatbots, this tool is intentionally scoped.
When users interact with the chat interface, the AI:
- Responds only to content-related and organizational questions
- Draws answers directly from your indexed WordPress content
- Avoids speculation or unrelated topics
- Allows organizations to create highlighted/suggested questions.
We’ve also built in protections to guard against:
- Bot attacks
- Harmful or malicious prompts
- Questions that fall outside the scope of your organization’s content
This keeps the experience focused, safe, and useful—especially important for public-facing sites.
Human-Friendly Responses, With Citations
Our AI Knowledge Hub is designed to return human-friendly responses that feel helpful, not robotic. Just as importantly, it provides citations and references showing where the information came from within your site.
Users can see:
- Which pages or posts informed the response
- Where to go for deeper reading or verification
This transparency builds confidence and encourages exploration of your content rather than replacing it.
Smarter Infrastructure to Control Costs and Improve Consistency
AI costs can add up quickly if every question is treated as brand new. To address this, we’ve built a backend system that:
- Stores previously asked questions
- Compares new questions to similar or identical ones
- Reuses existing answers when appropriate
This approach:
- Keeps AI usage costs down
- Ensures more consistent responses over time
- Improves performance for frequently asked questions
It’s a practical, scalable solution designed for real-world organizational use—not demos.
What’s Next: Search, Media, and Trusted Sources
This is just the first release.
Coming soon, we’re expanding the platform with:
Siloed AI Search
A new search experience where users can:
- Ask a single question
- Receive one focused answer
- Avoid building on previous questions or conversation history
This is ideal for quick lookups and high-precision answers.
Media & PDF Support
We’re adding the ability for the AI to:
- Reference and return media assets
- Search and cite PDF content
Trusted External Sources
Organizations will be able to define trusted external websites that the AI can search when answering questions—extending knowledge responsibly without opening the floodgates to the entire web.
Gutenberg-First, But Not Gutenberg-Only
While this tool is built as a modern Gutenberg block, it’s not limited to block-based themes. Classic WordPress sites can also take advantage of the AI Knowledge Hub without a full rebuild.
That means organizations can modernize their user experience incrementally—on their own timeline.
We didn’t build this tool to chase trends. We built it to solve a real problem: helping users find clear, trustworthy answers from the content organizations already work hard to create.
This AI Knowledge Hub turns WordPress sites into living, searchable knowledge systems—designed with care, transparency, and control.
And this is only the beginning.
