The complete timeline for design, development, content migration, and launch—without sacrificing clarity or stability.

Current is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting freshwater resources and advancing equitable water policy. As the organization expanded its programs and public-facing work, its existing Squarespace website began to limit how clearly and effectively it could communicate its mission.

In 2023–2024, Unrelated partnered with Current to rebuild their website and establish a new digital foundation—one that could better support storytelling, adaptability, and long-term growth.

The engagement focused on modernizing Current’s digital presence while setting the stage for a more flexible, community-driven approach to building on WordPress. All done in just 14 days.

The project began with a comprehensive digital redesign. Working closely with the Current team, we developed a refreshed digital style that felt confident, accessible, and mission-forward.

The new design system emphasized clarity, strong typography, and modular layouts—allowing content to adapt across programs, campaigns, and resources without sacrificing consistency.

Alongside the redesign, we replatformed the site from Squarespace to WordPress. This transition gave Current significantly more flexibility and control over their content, enabling custom content structures, improved editorial workflows, and the ability to evolve the site over time without being constrained by platform limitations.

WordPress provided a scalable foundation that aligned with Current’s growing needs and long-term digital strategy.

Current was the first client to implement Amplify, Unrelated’s WordPress toolkit designed to streamline development and encourage shared ownership of digital infrastructure.

More than an implementation, this collaboration helped shape the philosophy behind Amplify itself. Through real-world use, feedback, and iteration, Current played a key role in validating the idea that WordPress tools could be built in partnership with clients—guided by practical needs rather than abstract assumptions.

Their involvement helped kickstart Unrelated’s commitment to community-led building, influencing how future plugins, patterns, and tools would be designed and shared.

The result was not just a redesigned website, but a foundational project that helped define a more collaborative way of building and evolving digital platforms.
