We’re excited to announce the official launch of the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission’s newly redesigned website: https://asmfc.org/. This streamlined, modern online hub is now live and ready to serve fishermen, resource managers, researchers, educators, and coastal communities across the Atlantic seaboard.
What Is the ASMFC?
The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC) is a unique interstate compact of 15 Atlantic coast states working together to sustainably manage shared coastal fishery resources — from striped bass and menhaden to bluefish and river herring.
Established in 1942 and chartered by the U.S. Congress, ASMFC promotes conservation and cooperative management of marine, shellfish, and migratory fish populations that cross state boundaries.
A Better Digital Experience for All
The new ASMFC.org has been thoughtfully redesigned to elevate user experience and provide clearer access to the wealth of information the Commission offers. Highlights include:
- Comprehensive Species Profiles – Easily explore the Atlantic coast’s managed species and learn about their conservation status and management plans.
- Programs That Matter – Discover ASMFC’s core programs, from fisheries science and data management to habitat conservation and interstate law enforcement coordination.
- Action Tracker & Meetings Calendar – Stay in the loop with the latest management decisions, meeting agendas, and opportunities for public comment.
- Clear Access to News & Resources – Find press releases, stock assessments, public comments, and educational materials in one place.
Why It Matters
Atlantic coast fisheries aren’t just ecological treasures — they’re essential to local economies, cultural heritage, and recreational communities from Maine to Florida.
Many of these resources migrate beyond state borders, making cooperative management vital to both ecological health and sustainable use. The ASMFC’s work helps ensure vibrant fisheries, thriving coastal communities, and resilient ecosystems for generations to come.
