The Coronado News, a startup newsroom founded in 2023, aimed to fill a crucial gap in local investigative journalism in southern California. With no prior digital presence, The News sought Unrelated Studio’s expertise to establish its brand identity, develop a digital platform, and streamline publishing workflows.
As a new entrant in the media landscape, The News faced the challenge of building its newsroom infrastructure from the ground up. The client required a comprehensive solution encompassing newspaper page design, digital user experience design, narrative and newsletter design, and integration with Newspack’s publishing composer platform to support its content creation and distribution efforts.
Brand Identity Development: Unrelated worked closely with the newsroom leaders to develop a distinctive brand identity, including logo design, typography selection, color palette creation, and custom digital illustrations. The studio ensured that the visual elements reflected the publication’s mission, values, and community.
Digital Platform Development: Leveraging the latest web technologies from Newspack, Unrelated designed and developed a user-friendly website for The Coronado News. The digital platform featured intuitive navigation, responsive design, and seamless integration with social media channels to maximize reach and engagement.
Content Creation and Distribution Strategy: Unrelated collaborated with The News’ editorial team to devise a content creation and distribution strategy tailored to its target audience. Our team provided guidance on story ideation, narrative development, newsletter curation, and product development to ensure compelling and relevant content delivery.
